Chance the Rapper visits US Embassy, discusses Black Star Line Festival
KINGSTON, Jamaica – As one of his many stops during his birthday trip to Jamaica, American recording artiste Chance the Rapper visited the US Embassy, discussing his plans to host the Black Star Line Festival on the island in January 2024.
A photo of Chance’s visit was shared on the Embassy’s official social media pages on Wednesday. The rapper met with Ambassador N Nick Perry.
The multi-platinum-selling rapper, who was also spotted at the recently concluded Jamaica Carnival on Sunday, made the comments about hosting the festival during an interview with The Tonight Show’s host Jimmy Fallon in March. It aired on NBC.
“We’re actually thinking about hosting the next one in Kingston, Jamaica,” Chance said of the Black Star Line fest.
The inaugural festival was held in Ghana in January and it reportedly attracted more than 52,000 patrons.
“It was very successful,” he disclosed. Among the performers on the lineup were Erykah Badu, Dave Chappelle, T-Pain, Jeremih, Sarkodie, Tobe Nwigwe, Asakaa Boys and M.anifest.

The Black Star Line Festival, which is co-promoted by Vic Mensa, was inspired by civil rights leader Marcus Garvey’s Black Star Line, which was founded in 1919 and operated by Black people who helped link global shipping and tourism opportunities between America, the Caribbean and Africa.
The rapper was also spotted at the weekly Uptown Mondays event around the DJ console beside prominent dancehall selector Boom Boom.
