Cavalier miss taking lead in JPL, held by Faulkland
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Cavalier FC missed a chance to take over the lead in the Jamaica Premier League after they were held to a 2-2 draw by relegation-threatened Faulkland in their return round game played at the Anthony Spalding Sports Complex on Monday.
Cavalier came from behind twice and got the second equaliser in time added in the second half and are in second place on 37 points, one behind leaders Arnett Gardens and one more than Mt Pleasant FA, who have a game in hand.
In the first game of the doubleheader, Molynes United beat last-placed Chapleton Maroons 3-1 to leapfrog Montego Bay United into ninth place with 22 points.
In the feature game, Faulkland FC, who are still in 13th place, were drawing back-to-back games, took the lead in the 15th minute when Jelani Nicholson fired them ahead with his first goal of the season.
Cavalier had to wait until the 55th minute to draw level when a free kick from Dwayne Atkinson flew past David Swaby in the Faulkland FC goal.
Rondel Thomas, a second-half substitute restored the St James’ club’s lead in the 70th minute when he lobbed past the advancing goalkeeper.
Ronaldo Robinson spared Cavalier FC some blushes when he fired home three minutes into time added on.
In the first game, brothers Jermy Nelson and Nicholas Nelson gave Molynes United an early 2-0 lead with goals in the 13th and 19 minutes respectively.
Jason Wright added a third in the 33rd minute before Mark Lewis pulled a goal back for Chapleton Maroons in the 50th minute.
