#CariftaGames2023: Jade-Ann Dawkins wins second gold medal at Carifta
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Jade-Ann Dawkins won her second gold medal of the Carifta championships in the Girls’ Under- 20 long jump, while Torian Caven took the Girls’ Under- 20 high jump gold on Monday’s fifth session of the 50th Carifta Games at the Thomas A Robinson Stadium in the Bahamas.
Dawkins, who had won the triple jump earlier in the weekend, jumped 6.14m (-1.1m/s) to win the long jump gold, ahead of Trinidad and Tobago’s Janae De Gannes- 5.93m (-0.4m/s) with another Jamaican, Deijanae Bruce, taking the bronze medal with 5.78m (-1.3m/s).
Caven, who was second in the high jump at the Carifta Trials, turned the tables on Bruce on Monday, winning the event with Torian Caven 1.81m as Bruce took her second medal of the morning with the silver after clearing 1.78m.
Trinidad’s Keneisha Shelbourne was third with 1.75m. With the addition of the four medals as well as the disqualification of two Under -17 4x100m relays teams from Sunday and the planned re-run of the Under -20 boys’ 4x100m relays, Jamaica’s medal tally stood at 52 with 25 gold, 15 silver and 12 bronze medals.
Also on Monday morning, four Jamaicans advanced to the afternoon’s finals of the Under- 17 girls’ and Under -20 boys’ sprint hurdles events.
Bryana Davidson- 13.68 seconds (1.2m/s) and Camoy Binger- 13.80 seconds (2.3m/s) advanced in the girls’ Under -17 100m hurdles, while Shaquane Gordon- 13.72 seconds (-0.2m/s) and Demario Prince- 13.78 seconds, (1.5m/s) made progress in the Under -20 boys’ 110m hurdles.
