Buju Banton, Junior Reid bury hatchet after 14 years
Following a dispute which reportedly dates back to 2008 at the Best of the Best concert in Miami, veteran artistes Buju Banton and Junior Reid have now buried the hatchet.
The artistes, who turned in performances at a recent staging of Stone Love’s Weddy Weddy Wednesdays, were all about the love as they embraced each other in a true sign of brotherhood.
In footage which has been making the rounds on YouTube, Banton can be seen calling Reid to the consoles as the deejays turned the music down to allow him to speak. Banton admitted that the relationship between the two was strained by an incident that should never have happened.
“Junior, come een nuh. Me an yuh have a difference inna farrin weh wi shouldn’t even bloodcl**t have,” Banton said.
Reid then responded that there is no difference and that he and Buju are ‘one blood’.
“Wi nah no difference, you know, cause still one blood. Nobody nuh love yuh like how mi love yuh,” Reid said before they shared a hug.
“Yuh a mi pickney enuh. A me seh ‘all fruits ripe’ enuh, and den Buju come seh ‘all fruits ripe’. Mi love yuh enuh. A me seh ‘farrin mind’ and yuh come she ‘yuh wretch yuh, neva know seh life hard, why yuh neva sen yuh money come a yaad?’ A one blood. Anytime yuh si me an Buju, a one blood,” Reid added.
In June 2008, reports surfaced that Banton and Reid had some sort of ‘altercation’ during the Best of the Best concert. Reid, in later reports, told journalists that the two had bad blood brewing between them after Banton made some less than flattering comments about him in the presence of his daughter.
Reid said Banton at the time referred to him as ‘Junior Greed’, a term he took offence to and expressed that when Banton tried to greet him later that night at the concert, he gave him the cold shoulder.
The Weddy Weddy event is the first time the pair have publicly addressed the issue.
