British man charged after US$420,000 cocaine bust at Sangster airport
MONTEGO BAY, St James — A British national arrested on Saturday has been charged after US$420,000 worth of cocaine was allegedly found in his luggage at the Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay, St James.
Alan Reid, a 64-year-old farmer from Parchmore Road, Thornton Heath, England and Scarborough district, St Ann, has been charged with conspiracy, possession, dealing and attempting to export cocaine.
Reid, who is also charged with possession and attempting to export ganja, is to make a court appearance in the St James Parish Court on October 12, 2022.
Reid was reportedly held shortly before he boarded a flight to the UK.
It was reported that about 3:20 pm, Reid was in the process of checking in to board a departing flight to Manchester, England when his luggage was searched.
Police said cocaine weighing approximately 8.5 kilogrammes was found concealed in false compartments of two of his bags and was seized.
Detectives from the Narcotics Division were been called in to probe the matter. Following investigations, Reid was interviewed and charged Wednesday with breaches of the Dangerous Drugs Act.
