Boyz, Suriname clash at risk over Wint stand-off
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Jamaica’s Concacaf Nations League match against Suriname, which is set for the National Stadium tomorrow, is at risk after an impasse between the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) and members of the national senior men’s team escalated today.
The players, who had called for the resignation of JFF General Secretary Dalton Wint over logistical issues stemming from Saturday’s reverse fixture in Suriname, are said to be up in arms after receiving word that the JFF hierarchy had decided instead to suspend the administrator indefinitely and launch an investigation into the matter.
The Jamaica Observer understands that the players, who are insisting on Wint’s immediate removal, have also complained that they have yet to receive any official word from the JFF. According to sources, the players have packed their bags and checked out of their base at the Courtyard by Marriott Kingston hotel.
The team is scheduled to conduct a training session at the National Stadium today at 6pm but, according to our sources, the players have indicated that they will not take the field until Wint is removed from his post.
Concacaf has reportedly been advised of the developments.
JFF president Michael Ricketts had promised to hold a meeting today to discuss the matter and arrive at a solution.
