Arnett Gardens into second place after clipping Cavalier 2-1 in JPL
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Arnett Gardens beat 10-man Cavalier FC 2-1 on Sunday at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex to leapfrog them into second place in the points standings of the Jamaica Premier League as the return round got underway.
Jaheim Thomas and Fabian Reid scored in the first half for Arnett Gardens as they improved to 27 points, one more than Cavalier FC, both behind leaders Mt Pleasant FA who were held 0-0 by Faulkland FC in the first game of a double header at Wespow Park.
Thomas scored the opening goal in the 10th minute and Reid added a second in time added on at the end of the first half.
Cavalier were reduced to 10 men in time added on but there was still time for Shaniel Thomas to pull one back for Cavalier, late in stoppage time.
Mt Pleasant’s draw ended a three-game winning run where they scored seven goals while the point saw Faulkland FC move away from last placed Chapleton Maroons and closer to 12th place Vere United.
Harbour View took over fourth place on 22 points after edging Chapleton 1-0 at the Edward Seaga Sports Complex, Trey Bennett scoring the game’s only goal in the 15th minute.
Molynes United won for the first time in six games after beating Waterhouse FC 2-1 in the first game at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex, ending their three-game unbeaten run.
Jermy Nelson converted a penalty in the 27th minute to give Molynes United the lead but Shaquiel Bradford equalised for Waterhouse in the 42nd minute.
Jason Wright scored the winner for Molynes when he scored in the 71st minute.
At Wespow Park, Montego Bay United came from a goal down to earn a 1-1 draw against Portmore United, a repeat of their first round meeting at Drax Hall.
Alex Marshall gave Portmore the lead in the 23rd minute with a curling left footer but Johann Weatherly grabbed a point for the home team when he capped off an outstanding performance when he scored directly from a corner in the 49th minute.
