Arnett beat Mt Pleasant to close gap on JPL leader
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Mt Pleasant FA’s lead in the Wray and Nephew Jamaica Premier League was cut to a single point Wednesday, when they were beaten 2-0 by Arnett Gardens in the second game of a double header at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex.
Mt Pleasant’s third loss in their last four games see them remain on 22 points from 11 games, one more than Tivoli Gardens, Arnett Gardens and Portmore United, all tied on 21 points. Arnett Gardens have played one game less than their three rivals.
Second half goals from Kimani Arbouine in the 54th minute and Jaheim Thomas in the 69th minute gave Arnett Gardens their sixth win of the season and fourth in their last five.
In the second game of a double header at Jamaica College’s Ashenheim stadium, Tivoli Gardens blanked the struggling Harbour View 3-0 with goals from Kimarley Smith in the 52nd minute, Howard Morris in the 62nd and Alton Lewis in the 65th minute.
It was Harbour View’s third loss of the season as they remained in 11th place on eight points from nine games, one point above the relegation zone.
Portmore United made it three wins on the trot when they edged Vere United 1-0 at Wembley Centre of Excellence, Chevaughn Walsh scoring the winner in the 30th minute.
The win saw Portmore United stay in fourth place, three points ahead of the improving Dunbeholden United who also won a third straight game, coming from a goal down to beat Waterhouse FC 2-1 in the first game played at Ashenheim stadium.
Javane Bryan gave Waterhouse the lead in the 41st minute but an own goal in the 53rd minute from Damion Binns levelled the scores before Brian Burkett scored the winner in the 90th minute. The loss ended Waterhouse’s three games unbeaten run.
At Sabina Park, Cavalier SC, snapped a two-game winless run with a slim 1-0 win over Treasure Beach who were losing their fifth straight game, scoring just four goals during the run.
Jalmaro Calvin’s 20th minute goal was the difference between the teams as Treasure Beach ended the game with 10 players after substitute Romario Smith was sent off in the 81st minute.
Humble Lion ended their losing skid at three games with a 1-0 win over last placed Lime Hall Academy at Drax Hall, Karim Bryan coming off the bench to score the winner in the 85th minute.
Daniel Hardy scored a double for Molynes United to win their first game of the season, edging Montego Bay United 2-1 in the first game at Tony Spaulding Complex.
Hardy scored in the 22nd and 60th minutes for Molynes United who remained in 13th place, in relegation danger while Shaquille West pulled a goal back for Montego Bay United in the 73rd minute.
