Ackera Nugent wins first NCAA 100m hurdles title
Ackera Nugent of the University of Arkansas won her first NCAA Division one 100m hurdles title on Saturday’s final day of the outdoors championships when she ran a wind-aided 12.25 seconds (3.8m/s) at the Mike Myers stadium in Austin, Texas.
Nugent, who won two indoors 60m titles, one in March, dominated a quality field to win by a decisive margin with Masai Russell of the University of Kentucky second with 12.32 seconds and Alia Armstrong of Louisiana State third with 12.49 seconds.
Kevona Davis, who anchored the University of Texas 4x100m team to a victory at the start of the day, was fifth in the 100m final in a wind-aided 10.98 seconds (2.3m/s) as her teammate and former St Catherine High runner Julien Alfred won with 10.72 seconds.
Nickisha Pryce of the University of Arkansas was third in the 400m in a personal best 50.23 seconds.
