63-year-old woman among two killed in St James gun attack
ST JAMES, Jamaica – A 63-year-old woman was one of two persons shot dead during an attack by gunmen at Bobman Hill in Lilliput, St James, on Thursday afternoon.
She has been identified as Vernice Blackwood, otherwise called ‘Ms Vern’ a dressmaker from Bobman. She was killed along with Romario ‘Maro’ Bromfield, 28, said to be a music producer from Randal Hill in Lilliput.
It was reported that residents reported hearing loud explosions sounding like gunshots and summoned the police.
On the arrival of the lawmen, Blackwood was seen lying motionless on her side in a pool of blood on a side verandah with what appeared to be gunshot wounds to the upper body.
Bromfield was seen lying motionless on his back, in a pool of blood at the back of the house next to the perimeter fencing, with what appeared to be gunshot wounds to his upper body.
The two were taken to the Cornwall Regional Hospital, where they were pronounced dead.
While processing the murder scene, police found nine 5.56 spent casings used in M16 rifles and three 9mm spent casings.
No motive has yet been established for the attack, the police said.
