5-y-o killed in hit-and-run accident
CLARENDON, Jamaica – A child is now dead after what police believe to be a hit-and-run accident in the Bunkers Hill community in Northern Clarendon Tuesday afternoon.
The vehicle involved in the accident is said to be a Toyota Probox motor car.
Dead is Demarvy Davey, a five-year- old student who attended Bunkers Hill Primary School.
The police have classified the accident as a hit-and-run as the driver did not stop at the scene of the accident. Police later intercepted the vehicle and the driver managed to flee.
According to the police, about 3:17 pm, the child was walking along the road with his mother when the driver of the Toyota Probox motor car, which appeared to be speeding, lost control of the vehicle and struck the child. He was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The vehicle is known to frequent the community.
The child’s mother, Shimoy Kirkland, said they were on their way home from the Bunkers Hill Primary School where they had Bandana day celebrations.
“I was walking with my baby from school and mi stop and he was tying his shoes and then he walked across the road but the car was speeding and it him, lift up mi baby pan the bonnet and broke mi baby neck,” she recounted.
“He was a nice son,” sobbed the mother uncontrollably. “I can’t bear it! I can’t bear it.”
She said the child was taken to the doctor, who said his neck and hand were broken.
