5-star performances by Mt Pleasant, Arnett in JPL
ST ANN, Jamaica – Leaders Mt Pleasant FA extended their winning run in the Jamaica Premier League on Sunday, battering Montego Bay United 5-1 at Drax Hall in St Ann for a fifth straight win.
The Theodore Whitmore-coached team produced a second five-goal performance in as many games after beating Molynes United 5-0 in their previous outing.
Arnett Gardens also scored five goals on Sunday, spanking promoted Chapelton Maroons 5-0 at the Tony Spalding Sports Complex in Kingston, while there were also wins for Cavalier FC and Waterhouse FC.
Mt Pleasant are now on 20 points, four more than second-placed Cavalier who are on 16; defending champions Harbour View who play on Monday evening are in third place on 15 points, followed by Arnett Gardens and Humble Lion, both on 14 with Montego Bay United in sixth place on 12 points.
On Sunday, Trivante Stewart kept up his hot scoring run with a double against Montego Bay United after he had scored a hattrick against Molynes United.
Kimoni Bailey shot the home team into the lead after just three minutes before Ricardo Morris made it 2-0 in the 14th minute and Stewart got his first in the 39th minute to make it 3-0 at half time.
Demario Phillips scored in the 58th minute to make the score 4-0 for Mt Pleasant before Allen Ottey got a consolation goal for Montego Bay United when he converted a penalty kick in the 73rd minute.
Stewart then completed his brace in the 89th minute.
Arnett Gardens rebounded nicely from a two-game winless run with a commanding performance against Chapelton Maroons as Fabian Reid got the opener in the 17th minute, Earl Simpson made it 2-0 in the 36th minute and Ajuma Johnson scored in the 43rd minute for a 3-0 half time lead.
Kimani Arbouine, who came off the bench in the second half, made it 4-0 in the 71st minute before Marlon Martin scored an 88th minute penalty.
Collin Anderson scored a hattrick to lead Cavalier to a 3-0 win over Tivoli Gardens with goals in the 25th, 43rd and in time added on.
Waterhouse FC got only their their third win of the season, edging Faulkland FC 1-0 at Drax Hall, thanks to a seventh minute goal from Denardo Thomas.
Humble Lion had their three-game winning run snapped after they played out a 0-0 draw in their Clarendon derby against Vere United.
