The 2023 Two-Year-Old season gets under way
THE two-year-old campaign gets underway today with the $1.1-million Betting, Gaming and Lotteries Commission (BGLC)/Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association (TOBA) Juvenile Dash.
A small field of five runners is down to compete over three furlongs (600m) in the Maiden Special Weight contest for native-bred two-year-olds.
Champion trainer Jason DaCosta holds the aces with three of the five runners — Banadura, Lucy In The Sky, and Himaya. Trainer Ian Parsard saddled Blu Sensation, while Alford Brown has Sheer De Jour to complete the line-up.
Of special note, all the five runners entered are fillies.
Below, the Jamaica Observer’s The Supreme Racing Guide takes a closer look at each runner and their chances of winning this trophy race.
1. BANADURA: (2 b f by Casual Trick – Esperanza) – Good looker who, based on exercise reports, is going to need some time before she can ignite any spark.
2. LUCY IN THE SKY: (2 b f by Liquidity – Tap A Bay) – Seems to be the best of the DaCosta’s trio here. Lucy In The Sky is touted to be a good one in making, and given the choice of rider Reyan Lewis, she is the favourite to win first time of asking.
3. HIMAYA: (3 rn f by Casual Trick – Raksha) – Interestingly bred filly who seems to have some ability. Himaya is expected to give a good impression here.
4. BLU SENSATION: (2 b f by Sensational Slam – Blues In The Grass) – Well-bred filly who seems well forward here to take a hand in the outome. Blu Sensation is working well for her entry and is expected to give the favourite most to do here.
5. SHEER DE JOUR: (2 b f by Force De Jour – Sheer Madness) – Bred for speed and should play her part.
