Mojito the one beat in Prince Consort
The “Road to the Triple Crown” for colts and geldings continues with the 30th running of the Prince Consort Stakes on Sunday, April 9. The Graded Stakes contest has attracted a field of 10 going the distance of 7 furlongs (1,400m).
Below is the analysis of each runner and their chances of winning.
1. MOJITO: (3 gr c by Savoy Stomp – Fiftyshadesofray) – Crowned himself champion juvenile for last season after an impressive win in the Supreme Ventures Limited Jamaica Two-Year-Old Stakes (Grade One) feature contest over one mile (1,600m) on December 27. Mojito took the lead from four furlongs (800 metres) out and won by three lengths in a time of 1:41.1. Seven furlongs should not be a bother to him, and based on class and talent, Mojito should make a winning debut in the Prince Consort. He has been timely prepared, looking fit and proper in his morning exercise spins.
2. BURNING VALOR: (3 b c by Silent Cat – Burning Clearance) – Is not expected to trouble the principals. This is a learning experience for Burning Valor.
3. LOYAL ACTION: (3 b c by Western Classic – Fast Action) – Won the Harry Jaghai Trophy impressively by 5 lengths over 6 ½ furlongs on March 19. Loyal Action is going to find these runners too hot to handle.
4. BIG GUY IN THESKY: (3 b c by Natural Selection – Granville Greta) – Did well to finish 3 ½ lengths second to El Afortunado in the recent Sir Howard Stakes at 6 furlongs. Now that the race is longer and with the presence of El Afortunado, Big Guy In TheSky‘s chances of winning are none existent. Note, Big Guy In TheSky races with the hood taken off.
5. SECRET ADMIRAL: (3 ch c by Admiral Alex – Secret Cat) – Ran a disappointing race, finishing in fifth place behind Atlantic Convoy and Anonymous over 7 ½ furlongs on March 19, after making an exciting and eye-catching debut on February 11. Then Secret Admiral came from behind runners to win the 7-furlong event by 5 1/2 length going away in a time of 1:30.0. If he can reproduce his debut run, then Secret Admiral can have a say in the outcome, where a placing on the board is in the offing.
6. ROULETTE BOSS: (3 b c by Hedge Fund – My Heartbeat) – Coming to run as evidenced by an impressive length and a half win on February 26 over 7 ½ furlongs (1,500m). Roulette Boss is steadily gaining momentum at the right time, and has to be respected.
7. REJECTED RAJA: ( 3 b c by Soul Warrior – Palace Gold) – Has no realistic chance of winning this one.
8. EL AFORTUNADO: (3 b c by Bern Identity – Urgent Appeal) – Made a winning start under new management in the Sir Howard Stakes on March 12, over 6 furlongs. Trained by Anthony Nunes, who surrendered his lead to Big Guy In TheSky approaching the half-mile (800m) turn, he then quickened impressively in deep stretch and powered home by 3½ lengths. That win strongly suggests that he will be comfortable and at home in the Prince Consort. Progressing at the right time.
9. ANONYMOUS: (3 b c by Lion Tamer – Eighteen Karat) – Ran a good second behind Atlantic Convoy over 7 ½ furlongs on March 19. Two starts back, Anonymous was just 3 ½ lengths behind Mojito in fourth place in the Jamaica Two-Year-Old Stakes last December. Can turn the tables on Roulette Boss here, but beating both Mojito and El Afortunado is not possible.
10. MILOS: (3 b c by Casual Trick – The Vibes Lady) – Has to wait for another opportunity.
