I will be riding for the jockeys’ title in 2024 — ‘Terrific’ Tevin Foster
It’s no surprise that in-form jockey “Terrific” Tevin Foster has already staked his claim to challenge for the championship title this season.
Foster finished last season with 89 winners, 10 wins behind champion Reyan Lewis, who rode 99 winners.
“First and foremost, I want to give God thanks for a successful year in 2023. I rode 89 winners and I am grateful for this achievement as it is the best season yet in my riding career. Thanks to everyone that have contributed to this opportunity; the trainers, owners, grooms, my agent, family members, my supporters, and fans.
“I just want to continue to do well and do terrific things and make all is well and all is possible for 2024,” Foster told the Jamaica Observer‘s The Supreme Racing Guide.
Foster has started the 2024 racing season strong after booting home three winners on Monday, January 1, 2024. Foster won aboard Basiclicus for trainer Michael Spencer, Volatility for trainer Anthony Nunes, and Eazy Peazy for trainer Phillip Lee.
The following race meet on Saturday, January 6, Foster added another two winners to his tally. Foster’s winners were Chitu Prince for trainer Andre Adams and Milos conditioned by Gregg Fennell.
Foster leads the standing by two wins ahead of Raddesh Roman on three. Roman had a double with Playfair for trainer Anthony Nunes and Neo Star for trainer Peter-John Parsard on Monday (January 1) and rode one winner (Allegiance) for Nunes on Saturday (January 6).
“Most definitely, I will be here and I will be riding for the jockeys’ championship in 2024,” Foster declared.
“Kudos to Reyan Lewis, my apprentice brother and champion rider in 2023 and I wish him the best in 2024. Lewis showcased his talent well and he came out as the 2023 champion jockey.
“However, we have a lot of years ahead, so we just need to stay focused and keep on doing our best,” Foster said.
