Excessive Force to finish season with authority
Excessive Force, winner of the inaugural staging of the US$125,000 Mouttet Mile (invitational), headlines a talented field of nine runners down to take part in the third running of the $4-million Ian Levy Cup on tomorrow’s (Saturday, December 31) 10-race programme at Caymanas Park.
The three-year-old and upward Graded Stakes contest is set to run over 8 ½ furlongs (1,700m).
Below, The Supreme Racing Guide takes a look at each runner and their chances of winning the last major trophy event for the year.
1. I’VE GOT MAGIC (USA): (4 b c by Fast Anna — Lil Miss Richie) — Easily won the Ahwhofah Sprint over 6 furlongs (1,200m) by 3 ½ lengths in a time of 1:13.1 on December 11, 2022. I’ve Got Magic steps up here to compete for this trophy but has been a regular campaigner at this level, he should not be disgraced here.
2. MINIATURE MAN: (4 ch g by Northern Giant — Runaway Gal) — Won the Chairman’s Plate over 9 furlongs and 25 yards (1,820m) on December 3. Then Miniature Man defeated his stablemate Lure of Lucy by a neck in a time of 1:58.1. Miniature Man is up in class for this one, and so he cannot get any votes where winning is concerned.
3. RACE CAR (USA): (5 gr/rn h by Race Day — McDuffie) — Has no form to recommend. Race Car is going to be left behind.
4. PRINCE MARSHALL: (4 chapters, by War Marshall—Princess Shine)—Has no chance of beating these.
5. MAHOGANY: (5 ch g by Sensational Slam —Mete-Orite) — Gave his all when finishing fourth in the December 3 Mouttet Mile (invitational). Then Mahogany carried the field into the lane and was still in a winning position at the furlong (200m) pole but weakened in the final stages of the race. Going further, the Gold Cup winning Mahogany is expected to fall short, but, he packs a lot of class and can compensate for his Mouttet Mile loss, especially if judiciously ridden.
6. EXCESSIVE FORCE (USA): (5 ch h by Broken Vow — Fevered Kiss) — Produced a late surge on the inside rails to win the Mouttet Mile (invitational). Excessive Force‘s electrifying run in deep stretch—which brought the large crowd in attendance to its feet—won the three-year-old and upward Graded Stakes event in fine style by a length and a quarter. Excessive Force with that win cemented himself as one of the season’s stars after snatching the contest in a time of 1:41.0. If Excessive Force can reproduce that effort, then another trophy win is surely on the cards.
7. EL PROFESOR: (7 b g by Casual Trick — The Principal) — Should find these too hot to handle.
8. JORDON REIGN’S (USA): (4 b g by Mosler — Dearie Be Good) — One of the most improved horses in training at present. Jordon Reign’s produced a late surge to finish third by just 1 ¾ lengths behind Excessive Force and Duke in the recent Mouttet Mile (invitational). Based on that effort and the fact that this race is a half-furlong (100m) longer, Jordon Reign’s should be in the running for top honours here.
9. CALCULUS: (4 b c by Sensational Slam — Trinket Box) — Calculus was expected to do much better than his fifth-place finish in the recent Mouttet Mile. Calculus, last year’s Jamaica St Leger and Derby winner, is going to appreciate this extended trip and could upset all calculations here.
