Blue Vinyl makes striking statement
WITH the Mouttet Mile being the primary aim, the Alford Brown-conditioned Blue Vinyl made a striking statement on Saturday (October 14, 2023) with a decisive victory in the Mark My Word Trophy feature race.
Bred by Bern Identity – Blufield, Blue Vinyl went on an afternoon stroll, winning the Open Allowance contest for three-year-olds and upwards by 21 lengths and thereby marking one of his finest performances to date. Blue Vinyl clocked an impressive 1:54.2 for the nine-furlong, 25-yard (1,820m) event.
Brown said there is a chance his charge might run in the Jamaica Cup before heading to the Mouttet Mile on December 2.
“This was a very impressive run from Blue Vinyl and going forward now, the sky is the limit for him. I am very satisfied with the final time also as this horse is showing his true worth,” Brown said.
He continued: “Yes, we are preparing for the Mouttet Mile. That’s the main goal for him, and from here on the task is just to keep him sound, healthy, and fit till then. It is a possibility that we will run him in the Jamaica Cup but we are going to see how it goes with him. We are taking it one day at a time with him.”
Ridden Javaniel Patterson, Blue Vinyl broke well at the start and quickly took the lead going into the clubhouse turn, carrying the field onto the main track ahead of Outbidder (Phillip Parchment), Gone A Negril (Youville Pinnock), and D Head Cornerstone (Dane Dawkins).
Blue Vinyl maintained his steady gallop down the backstretch before he quickly pulled away from the field going into the half-mile (800m) turn. Although he was reminded by Patterson with a tap from the whip entering the straight, Blue Vinyl was able to essentially jog to the finish line without any competition.
D Head Cornerstone settled for second, with Miniature Man third.
