Wayne, Frankie go Afrobeat
Entertainers Wayne Wonder and Frankie Sly are friends for several years. So, when time came to create a party-vibe song, it was a no-brainer for a collaboration.
A week ago, Party All Night Long, a collaboration between both acts, was released. Produced by Peter “Pete Starr” Henry for 1 House Records, the Afrobeat track aims to get partygoers in the groove.
“Me and Frankie Sly have been writing and collaborating over the years, so it’s always a joy to work with my brother from another mother,” Wayne Wonder told the Jamaica Observer.
“Wayne Wonder and I did a couple of combinations before, but for whatever reasons, they never materialised though they were good songs. So doing a song with my brother from another mother was easy like A, B, C. It was really easy for us, that’s why it is such a happy song,” he continued.
Party songs have long been a part of Wayne Wonder’s large catologue of hits songs. They include Joyride, Bashment Girl, and Bonafide Love with Don Yute which have earned him a loyal fan base through the years.
A Grammy nominee for Best Reggae Album (his 2003 album No Holding Back) and winner of the United Kingdom’s Music of Black Origin (MOBO) Award in 2003, Wayne Wonder has been consistent with churning out hit songs.
Born in Portland and grew up in east Kingston, Wayne (real name Von Wayne Charles) now resides in the United States.
He has, to date, released 12 studio albums and has hit the British pop charts with No Letting Go and Bounce Along. No Letting Go, his biggest hit to date, peaked at 11 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Frankie Sly (real name Franklin Williams) is a 30-year veteran in music. A former member of Dave Kelly’s MadHouse crew, he is best known for the hit Ambulance (Wah Wah Wah).
His passion for music developed during his teenage years at Wolmer’s Boys’ School. Hailing from east Kingston, he now resides in the United States.
Aside from working with Kelly, Frankie Sly has worked with Shocking Vibes Productions, Penthouse Records, and Digital B Productions. He credits producers Lloyd “John John” James Jr and Stone Love’s Winston “Wee Pow” Powell for giving him the opportunity to wet his feet in the music business.
His mixture of hardcore hard-hitting songs includes Fassy, Six Six Six, and Grab It Up.
