Spirited Hi-Pro Denbigh Gospel Extravaganza
Tommy Cowan, director of Glory Music, the event producers of the Hi-Pro Denbigh Gospel Extravaganza, is pleased with the outcome of the show on August 6.
“The highlight was the entire show; well-balanced from top to end, all areas fitting according to plans,” he told the Jamaica Observer.
The show began at 6:00 pm as advertised with the Right Band led by Dave Green and emcee Nadine Blair onstage.
Clarendonian gospel minister Dr Carlene Davis, in a 40-minute set inspired with a One Handful of Salt medley, with backing vocalists Latoya Newell, Alicia Watson, and Patrick Earle. Her performance also included Jah Shall Wipe Way All Tears, The Assignment, Highway To Heaven, and a stirring high praise rendition of her Hallelujah Medley.
After closing, she surprised her husband, Cowan, with their anniversary rendition of her hit song Going Down To Paradise.
A surprised Cowan responded by singing his very own song, Ba Ba Boom.
Antonette Bromfield, marketing manager of Hi-Pro, sponsors of the event, spoke of the 14 years of Hi-Pro’s sponsorship of the Denbigh Gospel Extravaganza. She shared that the decision for continued support of the event is an easy one, as it brings together the two most important things for Hi-Pro, agriculture and God.
Clarendon preacher Rev Steve Hepburn was well-received by the audience. His performance included The Best Is Yet To Come and a reading from Psalm 23, with the theme ‘We Shall Fear No Evil’ expressing God’s guidance over Jamaica in these trying times.
He was supported by counsellors from the New Testament Church of God, May Pen, under directorship of Bishop James Small.
There were also high-energy sets from Pastor Goddy Goddy, Kevin Downswell and Petra Kaye.
Shikisha Cowan, creative producer along with assistants Carol Payne, Ryan Banton and Wayne Holung also expressed their gratitude to all performers and technical staff for a top quality execution.
Other performances were received from the award-winning Spaulding New Testament Church of God Dance Group and 2013 Digicel Rising Star winner Verlando Small, who offered renditions of So Will I, Jireh, and Goodness Of God.
