Sharain gets Anti-Social
The serious songwriter was once a pivotal part of dancehall/reggae. Sharain, a budding singjay from Clarendon, is eager to make her mark as an artiste and composer.
Her latest song, Anti-Social, was recently released. It is produced by SNS Production.
Like her previous songs, Lavish and Conscious People, Sharain wrote Anti-Social. It was inspired by a challenging period when she was dealing with “personal issues”.
Her songs, she explained, are based on her state of mind.
“I’m a very moody person, so I write songs based on what is in my mind. Anti-Social was written at a time when I wanted to be by myself,” she explained.
While most aspiring artistes can point to a number of musical influences, Sharain says that has never been the case with her. She has a lot of respect for Tanya Stephens as a songwriter, pointing to her song These Streets as the inspiration for her wanting to be a composer.
Born Sharain Richards, she hails from Crofts Hill district in Clarendon which she describes as a “calm community” that is “full of entertainers”.
While attending Kellits High School, she participated in Jamaica Cultural Development Commission events. Two years ago, Sharain launched her recording career after meeting Marlon and Brenda Morgan of SNS Production.
