Rohan da Great scores with Addicted
Dancehall artiste Rohan da Great has scored double success after the explicit version of his track Addicted soared to #6 on the iTunes US Reggae Singles Chart last September, while the ‘clean’ version hit #33 on the chart in March.
“I expected the success of the original release. Most of my releases usually chart, but I was surprised that the re-released clean version charted, being that it’s essentially the same song, just with expletives removed,” the singer, whose given name is Rohan Hylton, told the Jamaica Observer.
The artiste produced the song on his Leaders of the Artistic Revolution label, while the composition was done by a Colombian duo Miguel Angel Castro and Luis Carrasquilla.
Rohan da Great, son of legendary dancehall artiste Curry Don, hails from Brooklyn, New York, but now resides in North Carolina. His family is from Little London in Westmoreland.
Early on in his career, Rohan da Great garnered much comparisons to the likes of hip hop icons such as Jay-Z and Kanye West with his versatility.
The entertainer has sights set on making more global charts.
“I hope to grow as an artiste, continuing to make good music and reaching people through music. Personal goals of mine are to get a number one album on iTunes, chart on Billboard, and to get a Grammy for both reggae and rap, as both artiste and songwriter,” he said.
Meanwhile, Rohan da Great has new offerings in the pipeline.
“I plan on levelling up… continuing to tour and strive towards my goals. More immediately, I plan on continuing to push ny current single Emergency and prepare for the release of the updated clean verison and my upcoming international single She Single,” he said.
