Mr Vegas’s Money Mike Walk explodes on social media
Songs such as Raging Bull, Bruk it Down, Hot Wuk, and Tek Weh Yuself are among a long list of dance-inspired songs that have made dancehall veteran Mr Vegas a favourite among his fans.
The enterprising entertainer has scored another dance-inspired hit with Money Mike Walk, which is currently the rage on social media platforms Instagram and TikTok.
Money Mike Walk is inspired by popular businessman and prominent property developer Michael “Money Mike” Millwood.
“When I saw Money Mike merely walking around and people found it hilarious, I decided to give him his own song. I know Mike personally; he is a family friend. He is one of the humblest, kindest human beings in Jamaica. As a matter of fact, when I had just got my break in music, he called me and gave me a whole heap of jewellery and told me I have to look like a star,” Mr Vegas explained.
With its explosion on social media, Mr Vegas plans on hosting a dance challenge to further accelerate the promotion of Money Mike Walk.
“I was surprised at the quick, positive reaction. As a matter of fact, this is the first time I have gotten over 100,000 views in one week on TikTok and Instagram for any post I have made. I feel confident that the song will continue to grow, especially after the release of the music video which features Gabbidon, the creator of the dance move for the song Drift. I will also be doing a major #mikechallenge on social media. People can post their videos and win nuff money,” said Mr Vegas.
According to the I am Blessed entertainer, Millwood is appreciative of the song.
“I believe him rate the song big time, but because him nuh really show his emotions yuh not gonna fully know. Nevertheless, he endorsed it by giving us his boat as a prop to use while we were filming the music video. He also made an appearance in the music video as well,” Mr Vegas reasoned.
Money Mike Walk was produced by Kisko Hype and MV Music.
“So far, the reaction to the song has been very pleasing. People have been calling from all over saying that the song is a hit. Right now, mi nervous because a long-time mi wah find back a hit song and Money Mike Walk plus another song Dugu 2 seem to be heading in that direction,” said Mr Vegas.
Known for a string of hits, the Billboard-charting Mr Vegas (real name Clifford Smith) exploded onto the music scene in 1997 with the Jeremy Harding-produced Nike Air (Hand Inna Di Air) which charted on the UK Singles and Billboard charts.
Proving that he’s no fluke, Mr Vegas later followed up scoring other Billboard-charting hits with Hot Wuk, Pull Up, Hot Gal Today (with Sean Paul), and Standing on the Sun (remix) with international superstar Beyonce.
