More in store for Hitmaker
Music executive Hitmaker, renowned for the Seduction rhythm — which features crowd favourites like Bring Life by Kalado and Apartment by Demarco — believes that, after 12 years in the industry, he has cemented his name.
“The journey in music is bittersweet, I must say. I had great moments that became a classic in music, and I had not-so-great moments, and the journey never stops. [I’m] still working hard to reach the highest point — the vertex,” he told the Jamaica Observer‘s Splash.
“My presence has grown over the years and also my work ethic and the key knowledge and proper experience,” he added.
The deejay, whose given name is Kedon Whyte, attended Donald Quarrie High School before matriculating to Excelsior Community College and later the School of Studio Engineering.
He founded his Hitmaker Muzik label in 2009, releasing his first track, Nuh Fren, shortly after. The producer is also known for other singles such as 9 Months, Body Calling and Dah Look Deh. He has worked with other industry standouts such as Masicka, Ishawna, Konshens, Spice, Chris Martin, Vershon and more.
While he boasts an impressive track record, Hitmaker is bemoaning several challenges that he believes is stalling the dancehall industry.
“[There is] lack of professionalism among my co-workers, lack finance to market the product, and lack of trust in the process,” he said.
Hitmaker is adamant about creating a space for emerging acts and shares that there are collaborations in the works.
“I am venturing off to help my co-workers, especially the young, up and coming, and correcting some of the mistakes that I had made in my earlier stages so they don’t need to repeat them. I don’t want to put a title on myself yet to say what field I fall under, but I am kinda leaning towards music branding and marketing executive,” he said.
