Living the entrep life
Philanthropist and co-founder of Mill A Week Records-cum-author Sasha Smith is looking to inspire adolescents with her first book Life Of A Young Entrepreneur.
The self-published book officially launched on November 18.
“I have lived an unorthodox life… It wasn’t any step by step with mine. So, because of that, I wanted people to know that even coming from the ‘rough’ or humble beginnings like I did, dreams can still come true for them. In order for me to do that, I had to muscle up the courage to write this book so people can not only learn about my background coming up, but also with everything I’ve achieved. If they ever have any dream in their heart and let fear take them over, I just want them to know [that] they can,” she told the Jamaica Observer.
Smith, who hails from St Catherine is also the founder of the Young People Rise Foundation. Since 2017 hundreds of students have benefited from the organisation’s outreach programmes.
Smith attended Oberlin and Gaynstead high schools. She later migrated to the United States where she enrolled in the Lincoln Culinary College.
She is currently pursuing a nursing degree at Chamberlain University.
The new author further said that she has been getting positive feedback for her work.
“Everybody is so excited… [I]t just start hitting people’s homes, so they just started sending me pictures. A lot of people who read it already knew part of the story, but they’re surprised at certain things that happened,” she said.
“One person said to me, ‘Sasha, you had to write that book, because with your story it needs to be told to the world,’ ” Smith continued.
She plans to pen other inspirational novels.
“I want a second part to this book, but before I do that I think I’m going to do a book called Better Me. That’s going to speak to mental health and what it takes to drive me everyday. I’m going to go more detailed into relationship issues and family togetherness and how I single-handedly unified my family…” Smith said.
