Konshens’s wife breaks silence
Latoya Spence (nee Wright), wife of dancehall deejay Konshens, has cleared the air about the state of their relationship.
“Thanks for the hundreds of DM (direct messages) but one question…who told y’all I was leaving my husband!? We ain’t no pretenders, we are humans…we have our vulnerable moments and situations; we don’t paint it like we perfect — never have. We don’t ask to be nobody’s couple goals ’cause we both made and making mistakes and learning, and getting better at this thing called life. So all y’all perfect men and women, kudos to you,” she posted on Instagram on Thursday night.
Her statement comes following an Instagram post that Konshens (given name Garfield Spence), made on Tuesday hinting that the two had parted ways for good.
The entertainer highlighted that he has been depressed and suicidal since his older brother, dancehall artiste Delus, committed suicide in 2016. In his online post, Konshens said that he was going to “fix himself as a person” and “fix his head too”, and said he hoped his wife found “happiness with someone deserving”.
His lengthy statement sent social media into a frenzy; some expressing shock at what seemed to be a permanent decision, and others wishing both parties the best on their individual journeys. Some Instagram users, however, bashed the pair for what they believed was a publicity stunt.
The deejay’s wife expressed commitment in helping her husband heal fully, and that she is unmoved by the negative comments.
“He has a strong woman by his side, and he will be nursed back to the strong man that he is — and I will ensure of this. My family, including my husband, is my number one priority right now; and if you have a negative comment bout dat please take it elsewhere ’cause Greg and I care zero, as we always have,” she said in a follow-up post.
Konshens and Spence, mother of his son, tied the knot on November 19, 2017 in Florida at Fort Lauderdale Marriot Harbour Beach Resort and Spa.
