Johnny Daley set to Outburst
POPULAR Jamaican actor and comedian Christopher “Johnny” Daley is in preparation mode to join Cedric the Entertainer onstage for Outburst Standup Comedy Series, slated for the National Arena in St Andrew on Saturday.
“I’m preparing to give jokes. I have some traditional jokes, but I’m not sure I’m going to use them yet. I’ve been in the business for so long and right now there are lots of stuff to talk about. It’s hard to say I’m gonna be talking about ‘xx’ or something else. I’ve been doing comedy for quite some time and, for some, it might be a big show, but for me, it’s just another show,” he told the Jamaica Observer.
Daley also noted that even after more than three decades, he still gets the jitters before every performance.
“I feel excited. I still feel butterflies… still feel the adrenaline and I still calm myself with a little prayer. I definitely work myself into performance mode. I’m passionate about it,” he said.
Outburst Standup Comedy Series will also feature Majah Hype and Rita B.
Daley has been in the public eye for quite some time thanks to his breakout role on the television sitcom Lime Tree Lane, which aired on the now-defunct JBC TV throughout the 1980s and 90s.
In a previous interview with the Observer, Kahlil Shirley, co-conceptualiser of the comedy series, said this will be one of the most memorable productions Jamaica has ever seen.
“For one, we have regular VIP tickets which has food and liquor-inclusive. Then, we have the general area. We have eight sky box seats … and with that, you can bring six friends, you get VIP parking, your own caterer, furniture, and the whole works. If you don’t want to mingle with people and want your own area, this is perfect. We’re going above and beyond. We’re doing a circular dome stage and not the regular rectangular one. This is the first time this is going to be done. We’re doing a circular stage for a more intimate feel,” he said.
In 2018, Shirley and his team took the comedy series from Jamaica across the Caribbean to Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago, St Lucia, Turks and Caicos, and the Cayman Islands. Mike Epps was the headliner. The intention is to do the same this year, once everything is confirmed.
Part-proceeds will be donated to a Corporate Area children’s home.
