Grindsman back in the saddle

Grindsman back in the saddle

Dancehall veteran Grindsman is seeking to further advance his career through collaborations with this new generation of dancehall artistes.

“My biggest aim is to collaborate with some known artistes a yard and overseas. All over the world, my fan base is huge. Even though I am out of the limelight for a while, I have been gaining young fans every day through Spotify and Apple Music and other streaming platforms,” the artiste, whose real name is Joseph Green, said.

Grindsman is banking on his latest single, Rise, which was released on his own KingG Records label.

“The song will be included on a new compilation album featuring other artistes. I have been writing and voicing on my label KingG Records from 2022 until now. My wish is to voice on some new beats for any current producers who are willing to voice me,” he said.

Grindsman recently released new singles such as Here With Me and Solid As a Rock through online streaming platforms.

He has also been doing some production work for labels such as Clinical Records based in Jamaica.

The artiste developed a love for music at the age of 7 and got his major break with an appearance at the Portmore Talent Search.

In the mid-80s he recorded his first single, entitled Boysie, a commercial on television (1989) and got his first taste of fame when he performed at his first major event, Fresh, in 1990.

He scored his first major hit with the hard-core Gunchat on the Higher Dimension label. Then followed up with the mega hit Benz Punaany, Friend Back and Action Pack.

These hits earned him a series of sold-out shows across some Caribbean islands like Antigua, Bermuda, St Vincent, St Maarten, and Trinidad. Then he took a three-year sabbatical from the business which slowed down his momentum.

During the years 2003-2004, Grindsman said he signed to Tuff Gong through his links with Cedella Marley.

“Somebody carry ‘news’ to radio personalities that I said something which mi never did and they banned me off the radio for years. After a while, nothing never did a gwaan, the ting get slow and mi migrate. Mi never did a put interest in America at first, but I met a lady and we get the ting together, dem place ya expensive fi live, yuh need two to make it. Mi cleave to mi empress but mi never give up pon mi music.” he said.

In his heyday, Grindsman toured the world on the strength of his hit singles.

“Now, I am ready to feed the world with music again,” he said.
