‘Good Times’ delivered the goods
Olympian and retired 100m sprinter Asafa Powell and his wife Alyshia danced up a storm at last Saturday’s staging of Smirnoff Good Times, which was held at the Mas Camp, Stadium North.
The couple rocked to the retro hits spun courtesy of DJs Krazy Kris, DJ Liquid, DJ Smurf, and Little Richie.
“Good Times is an event that I’ve always wanted to experience for some time now, but I’m always in some other country. But this time around it was the perfect opportunity, and it was also the birthday of a friend of mine,” Powell told the Jamaica Observer post-event.
He said the event lived up to his expectations.
“Honestly I love all retro music, 70s and 80s souls and rhythm and blues and most definitely 80s and 90s reggae and dancehall… It was definitely a good time,” Powell added.
But while Powell and his wife and thousands of others inside the venue danced to their favourite retro tunes, dancehall hit-maker Frisco Kid took the event to another dimension.
Armed with a vast catalogue of hit songs, the Portmore-based entertainer put in a workmanlike performance that saw patrons dancing to Little and Cute, Rubbers, Big Speech, Think We Nice, among others.
Omar Perrin, one of the organisers of Smirnoff Good Times, was pleased with the night’s turnout.
“The highlight of Good Times was seeing the patrons dancing and enjoying themselves all night! We were quite pleased with the event because we aim to please our patrons and once they are happy, we are also happy. Partnering with our sponsors to provide giveaways for the patrons and the excellent team of DJs to provide nonstop vibe and energy, it was indeed a good time,’ said Perrin.
The next staging of Good Times is scheduled for September 27, 2024.
