Gabrielle Morrison’s reconnection with Christ inspires More of You
Gospel newcomer Gabrielle Morrison is buoyed by the positive reaction to her debut single More of You.
The song, released in September, was inspired by her reconnection with the Lord.
“I was inspired to write the song More of You as I was in a backslidden state at the time and it so happened that my producer sent me a rhythm and said that I should build a song around it, knowing the state that I was in. I reflected on my life, and I reached out to the Lord in repentance, then the words of the song came to me, and that is how More of You came about,” Morrison, aka Purpose Child, disclosed in an interview with the Jamaica Observer on Friday.
More of You was produced by Esrick “Minister Morgie” Morgan.
Said Morrison: “The feedback has been great, and it has motivated me to continue on the journey along with the family support and the support from friends that I have been receiving.”
Asked how she came by the name Purpose Child, Morrison explained: “I arrived at the name Purpose Child after a pastor tapped me on the head once and called me purpose. After that it resonated with me, then I added child to it, knowing the many things that I have been through, and that is how the name Purpose Child came about.”
Morrison embarked on her journey in gospel music in 2020 but it wasn’t until in September that she released her very first song.
“The journey has been bitter and sweet, as there were some external factors that affected me,” she shared.
The 27-year-old Morrison grew up between Barbican in St Andrew, Kintyre in the Papine area, and the parish of St Thomas. She currently resides in Portmore, St Catherine.
She said her grandmother has been her biggest inspiration and this led to her giving her life to Christ at a young age.
All told, Morrison has been inspired by a wide range of gospel acts, among them Ryan Mark, Carlene Davis, Don Moen, Jekalyn Carr, Jermaine Edwards, and Kevin Downswell.
She said she is on a mission to bless God’s people and intends to grow in the industry as she puts out more music.
“Among my goals are to win a Sterling Gospel Music Award and international awards, while touching many lives with the music that I do,” said Morrison.
