Critical moment for Spice
In November, dancehall artiste Spice had millions of friends and fans around the world concerned after news surfaced that she was in “critical condition” following an alleged botched cosmetic procedure in the Dominican Republic.
International acts including Missy Elliot, Canadian fashion model Winnie Harlow, American television personality Lala Anthony, and American rapper Busta Rhymes all took to social media to send their prayers and get-well messages.
Artistes Stefflon Don, Sean Paul, London Hill, and Shaggy; Member of Parliament Lisa Hanna and sprinter Elaine Thompson-Herah were among the well-wishers.
Spice, who subsequently returned to social media a week later, thanked everyone for their prayers and support and said she had done a procedure to rectify a ruptured hernia. She also indicated that she would be taking some time away from the spotlight to recover and spend time with her children.
Spice first came to prominence with the 2009 single Romping Shop, alongside Vybz Kartel. In recent years, she has taken her brand outside dancehall boundaries by co-starring in the VH1 reality series Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta.
