Chris Gayle does it for charity
West Indian cricketer-turned-artiste Chris “Universe Boss” Gayle will be giving all the proceeds made from his 40 Shades of Gayle 2.0 birthday party back to the less fortunate.
The event, which is slated for tomorrow, will be headlined by dancehall deejay Masicka.
“The proceeds are for the Chris Gayle Foundation which is used to help children and families in need, as well as the youths at the Lucas Cricket Club which helped in my development and [is the] home of my cricket academy,” he told the Jamaica Observer‘s Splash.
The birthday bash will be held at his home in Chancery Hall, St Andrew. Tickets are being sold online.
This is the second staging of the birthday celebration. The sporting star will be celebrating his 43rd birthday. His foundation was founded in 2013.
Gayle noted that he has always had the spirit of altruism.
“It was chosen because it’s my foundation and it’s my way of giving back. I’ve always been giving back to kids; whether back-to-school or Christmas treats,” he said.
Gayle made his recording debut in early 2020 when he teamed with Indian rapper Emiway Bantai on the track Jamaica to India. Later that year, he teamed up with Tanto Blacks for We Come Out to Party, produced by Kurt Riley.
Gayle, who played international cricket for the West Indies since 1999, has set numerous records across all three formats of the game. He is the most-capped player for the West Indies in international cricket and is the only player to score a triplet of centuries — a triple hundred in Tests, double hundred in One-Day Internationals (ODIs), and a hundred in Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is).
He announced his retirement from international cricket in November 2021.
He promises that tomorrow’s celebration will surpass the first one held in 2019.
“This year Masicka will be performing as a special guest and the first one was a first-class affair and lots of fun and this year the event will be even bigger,” he said.
