All set for Sugar Cane Ball
ROUND HILL, Hanover — The glitz and the glamour of the highly anticipated Sugar Cane Ball, a notable highlight on the social calendar, will unfold at the beautiful Round Hill Hotel this Saturday.
Coming after last year’s Diamond Jubilee, this year’s theme is the Roaring 20’s, and will take patrons back to a time of flappers, fun, jazz, fringe, fanciful headgear, and the speakeasy. Of course, the Sugar Cane Ball is not just a time for frolic, but is the main fund-raiser for Hanover Charities.
For over 60 years, the charity has been donating millions of dollars to scores of organisations, institutions and individuals in the parish of Hanover.
It has contributed to schoolfeeding programmes, and assisted with food and medication for the ill, elderly and homeless.
Hanover Charities also stages an annual health fair and oversees an extensive scholarship programme. They also assist with new furniture, classroom extensions and computer rooms. The organisation has also provided help to facilities such as the Westhaven Home for Disabled and Abandoned Children as well as the Hanover Infirmary.
And while the Sugar Cane Ball is the main event on the roster this year, there is also an art exhibition and sale at Round Hill, which began yesterday, and will end on February 20.
On Sunday there will also be polo matches, starting at 2:00 pm, at the Chukka Polo field in Sandy Bay, Hanover.
