Nadia Nivens Jarrett— CHARGE LEADER
Nadia Nivens Jarrett is the senior marketing manager at fintech firm Lynk. Having served in communications for over 15 years, she now leads the charge as one of several female leaders at Lynk which operates in what is a male-dominated field.
Asked about her experience, Nivens told Digital Life, “I have had the opportunity to work in several industries over the years including tobacco, telecommunications, banking, and fintech and have been very fortunate where I was given opportunities to lead major projects and high-performing teams; not only in Jamaica, but also across the Caribbean and Central America.”
Nivens Jarrett believes more girls ought to be encouraged to pursue tech careers.
“I think this starts from as early as childhood… we see the establishment of gender roles related to chores, subjects, vocational skills, and ultimately career choices. It would be helpful if through education, mentorship, and targeted private/public sector programmes, we modernised our approach to encourage more girls to tackle non-traditional career paths and industries.
“I see where steps are being made and many companies are putting investment in initiatives like Girls in ICT Day, but we need more sustained and wide-ranging effort,” she said.
She credited her mother, Patricia McLean, for her inspirations.
“I attribute all my achievements to her unwavering support, guidance, love and sacrifice,” adding that her mother gives the best advice.
The executive acknowledged, however, the struggle with work/life balance.
“This is a constant struggle and often very difficult to balance. I try to find every opportunity to carve out quality time with my children and husband. I also try to fit in some fun and entertainment with friends and loved ones and a little ‘me time’ where I just unwind and relax.”
Lynk, Nivens Jarrett advised is on the cusp of an important paradigm shift in Jamaican consumer behaviour. The prospect of a digital wallet may be new and can even be daunting for individuals more comfortable with using cash.
“I am ecstatic for all Jamaicans to see how easy, safe, and convenient it is to use Lynk, and my dream is to be a part of the groundbreaking team that transforms Jamaica into a cashless society, where all persons and businesses are actively using Lynk.”
