Grand Palladium seeks winter season hires
Grand Palladium Jamaica Resort and Spa is seeking winter season hires for its properties in the parishes of Hanover, St James and Westmoreland. The hotel is advertising on job sites for workers in over 30 categories and principally at supervisory levels, stating in some cases that it needs more than one applicant in indicated categories.
The winter season usually begins December 15 and lasts until mid-April. Minister of Tourism Edmund Bartlett has announced that Jamaica is set to have a record winter tourist season.
Speaking at an event at Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay at the start of the season, Bartlett highlighted that the destination will, “welcome over 1.4 million visitors and earn approximately US$1.5 billion in foreign exchange”.
Bartlett said projections showed that the island is “well ahead of our previous recovery projections and that Jamaica remains a safe and seamless destination that is in high demand. Our airlift is strong as we increase routes and connectivity, and cruise is back. In terms of flights for the period, Jamaica is also projecting 1.3 million seats of which over 900 thousand will be from the United States.”
Grand Palladium indicates the positions which it is seeking to fill are permanent/full time and targeted at experienced recruits. Workers needed are front office agent, bellman, guest relations agent, baker assistant and pastry cook, butcher, cooks, steward and stewarding supervisor, bar supervisor, bartender, cocktail server, mini bar stocker, banqueting manager, assistant maître d’, room service manager for in room dining, order takers and restaurant supervisors.
Other vacancies are for waiter/waitress, wine valet, assistant laundry manager, laundry attendant, laundry driver, assistant public area manager, public area attendant, assistant executive housekeeper, housekeeping supervisor, houseman, uniform and facilities supervisor, spa supervisor, spa stylist and therapist, spa sales representative and wedding sales specialist.
The hotel is also seeking a lifeguard, assistant maintenance manager, maintenance supervisor, kitchen technician, electronic and automation technician, plumber, room technician, welder, and a warehouse clerk.
The hotel indicates that competencies required include the ability to work under pressure in a fast paced environment and are required to have “excellent time management skills; ability to prioritise and coordinate details; ability to multi-task and use initiative.”
Benefits being offered to applicants include accommodation, health and life insurance, pension plan, uniform and meals. The deadline for applications is December 30.
Palladium hotels are all located in Jamaica on the north coast between Montego Bay and Negril. The properties target visitors including families, couples, and groups. Located near to beaches they also feature sports centres and children’s water parks. Other hotels in the chain are located in Mexico, Dominican Republic, Brazil, Spain, and Italy.
