Girls’ economic empowerment
TWENTY-TWO high school girls from the Phoenix Girls Club in Seaview Gardens completed eight weeks of intensive coaching in economic empowerment topics, with training in financial literacy, resume and interview skills, conflict resolution and self-assurance from expert facilitators. This holistic programme is being run by the United Way of Jamaica and funded by Cuso International through the Canadian government and JETS Ltd.
After their hard work and dedication, the young ladies have begun the next phase of the project — being matched with a female mentor from corporate Jamaica to further explore their learnings and have 1:1 support in applying their skill-sets in building their bright economic futures.
On February 23, both mentors and mentees participated in an engaging set of workshops at Hope Zoo (Treehouse), to prepare them for their mentorship relationship. Following the workshops was a matching ceremony where mentors and mentees were paired for the first time.
Here are some highlights from the workshop.
