Get fit now to prepare for the holiday eating
CHRISTMAS, with all it’s loveliness, is exactly one week away, and as you prepare to get down and be merry with the offerings from the kitchen, it’s important that if you’ve been on a fitness journey, you do your best to stay within the healthy bounds. This includes maintaining a fitness regimen, especially as you lead up to the big eating day.
Fitness trainer Demario Johns shares these tips for getting fit now to prepare for what’s expected to be days of overindulging.
Establish a routine
Create a consistent workout routine that includes a mix of cardio, strength training, and flexibility exercises. Aim for at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise this week.
Set realistic goals
Define achievable fitness goals to stay motivated. Whether it’s increasing your daily step count or improving your endurance, setting realistic targets helps you focus.
Do high-intensity interval training (HIIT)
Incorporate HIIT workouts to maximise calorie burn and improve cardiovascular fitness in shorter periods of time.
Prioritise strength training
Building muscle can boost your metabolism and contribute to fat loss. Include strength training exercises at least two to three times this week.
Stay active throughout the day
Take breaks to stretch or walk, use stairs instead of elevators, and find opportunities for movement during the day to increase overall physical activity.
Mix up your workouts
Keep things interesting by trying different types of exercises or classes. This not only prevents boredom but also challenges your body in new ways.
Stay consistent
Consistency is key to seeing results. Stick to your workout schedule, even at your busiest, to maintain progress.
“The goal is to establish sustainable habits,” Johns said. “Regular exercise paired with mindful eating can help you stay fit and enjoy the holiday season guilt-free.”
