5 exercises for busy moms
FITTING exercise into your busy schedule as a mom can be a challenge, but with some planning and creativity, it’s definitely possible. You basically have to prioritise and schedule, treating exercise like any other important appointment. You have to block out time in your schedule specifically for it, do more short, intense workouts, and most times, make it a family affair, involving the kids in your exercise routine.
“Understand that even short, regular bouts of exercise can make a difference,” said fitness trainer Demario Johns. “And sometimes things don’t go as planned. So if you miss a session, don’t stress. Just find another slot in your schedule.”
He said the goal is to find a routine that works for you and is sustainable in the long run. Here are five exercises he suggests for busy moms.
Bodyweight squats
They engage multiple muscle groups and can be done anywhere, requiring no special equipment.
Planks
Great for core strength, they can be done in short bursts throughout the day.
Jumping jacks
A full-body exercise that also gets the heart rate up for a quick burst of cardio.
Walking or jogging
A simple and effective way to get some fresh air and exercise. You can even do this with a stroller.
Yoga or pilates
These are excellent for flexibility, balance, and overall body strength. They can be done at home or in a short class.
“Remember, consistency is key. Even if you can only fit in a few minutes at a time, every bit helps. It’s important to find exercises that you enjoy and that fit into your schedule,” Johns said.
“Also, if possible, consider working out before the day gets hectic or after everything has settled down. If you’re spending time with your kids, involve them in your exercise routine. Play active games or go for family walks. And there are plenty of online platforms with quick, effective workouts that you can do from the comfort of your home.”
