5 workouts to relieve stress
GETTING active and staying fit is an effective way to relieve stress and promote relaxation. Here are five workouts that are known to help reduce stress, suggested by fitness trainer Lennox Richards.
Cycling
Cycling outdoors or using a stationary bike can provide a sense of freedom and help clear your mind while giving your body a workout.
Running or jogging
Cardiovascular exercises like running or jogging can release endorphins, which are natural stress relievers. They also provide a sense of accomplishment and improved mental clarity.
Dancing
Whether in a dance class or simply dancing to your favourite music at home, dancing can be a fun way to reduce stress and elevate your mood.
Swimming
The rhythmic movements of swimming, combined with the water’s soothing effect, can help alleviate stress and promote relaxation.
Group fitness classes
Participating in group exercise classes, such as Zumba, spinning, or aerobics, can offer a social aspect along with the physical benefits.
“The key to stress relief through exercise is consistency and finding activities that you enjoy,” Richards said. “Choose workouts that align with your fitness level and preferences, and consult your health-care provider before starting a new exercise regimen, especially if you have any underlying health conditions.”
