Eat these foods to lose belly fat
IT’S one of the hardest types of fat to lose, and experts will tell you that it has to do more with what you eat than your fitness level. Belly fat, according to nutritionist Keisha Black, is attributed to different factors like being sedentary, your hormones, as well as eating too much sugar and not enough fibre and protein.
“To lose belly fat, focus on a balanced diet that includes plenty of vegetables, lean proteins, whole grains, and healthy fats,” Black said. “Avoid sugary beverages and processed foods, and try to reduce your overall calorie intake. Incorporate regular exercise and stay hydrated to support your weight loss goals.”
She shared this list of foods that can help support your efforts to lose belly fat:
Vegetables
Leafy greens, broccoli, cauliflower, bell peppers, carrots and other non-starchy vegetables are low in calories and high in nutrients.
Lean proteins
Chicken, turkey, fish, tofu, lentils, beans, and low-fat dairy products are good sources of protein that can help you feel full and support muscle maintenance.
Whole grains
Oats, quinoa, brown rice, and whole wheat products are rich in fibre and can help regulate blood sugar levels.
Fruits
Berries, apples, pears and citrus fruits are low in sugar and high in fibre, making them good choices for weight loss.
Nuts and seeds
Almonds, walnuts, chia seeds, and flaxseeds provide healthy fats and can help keep you satisfied.
Healthy fats
Avocado, olive, and coconut oil can be used in moderation to add flavour to your meals and support satiety.
Greek yoghurt
Low-fat or non-fat Greek yoghurt is high in protein and can be a good option for a healthy snack.
Green tea
This beverage contains antioxidants and may have some metabolism-boosting effects.
“Losing belly fat requires a combination of a healthy diet, regular exercise, and lifestyle changes,” Black said. “Consulting with a health-care professional or a registered dietitian can provide personalised advice tailored to your specific needs and goals.”
