Get ‘glass skin’ with honey and turmeric
‘GLASS skin’ is the new favourite aspiration for the beauty girls on social media. It means that, like a piece of glass, the skin is blemish-free, poreless, smooth, even-toned, lustrous, and at its healthiest. Many people have been claiming to have used products that made them achieve this, among the most natural being the multi-useful turmeric.
Turmeric, mixed with honey for skin care, has been used for centuries — and both are known for their potential benefits. Aesthetician Nicola Meredith said what makes these two ingredients particularly special, also, is that they are affordable and you can make your own ‘glass skin’ potion at home.
“Turmeric contains a compound called curcumin, which possesses antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties to help reduce inflammation and promote overall skin health,” Meredith said. “It can help with conditions like acne, eczema and psoriasis.”
Honey, on the other hand, is known for its moisturising and antibacterial properties.
“Honey will hydrate your skin, lock in moisture, and provide a soothing effect. It is also antibacterial, to prevent acne breakouts and support wound healing,” Meredith explained.
She said when combined, turmeric and honey can create a beneficial skincare treatment and as such can be used for making:
Turmeric and honey face mask
Mix one teaspoon of turmeric powder with one tablespoon of raw honey to form a paste. Apply the mixture to your face and let it sit for 10-15 minutes. Rinse off with warm water and pat dry. This mask can help brighten the complexion, soothe inflammation, and provide a natural glow to the skin.
Turmeric and honey spot treatment
For targeted use, mix a small amount of turmeric powder with a teaspoon of honey to create a paste. Apply this mixture to specific areas affected by acne or inflammation and leave on for 10-15 minutes. Rinse off gently with warm water and follow with a moisturiser.
Meredith warned that turmeric has a natural yellow pigment, which can temporarily stain the skin.
“If you have sensitive skin or any skin conditions, it’s also recommended to consult with a dermatologist before trying any new skincare treatments,” she said.
