Charissa Clemetson launches Confidence Redefined workshop to help women and girls boost their confidence
FOR Charissa Clemetson, applying make-up is not only about enhancing one’s outward natural beauty — it’s a time for reflection beyond what the mirror can capture. After spending many years learning to overcome her own insecurities, the certified make-up artist decided to add one more tool to her make-up kit — her voice — to help girls and women to redefine their confidence.
Through her series of Confidence Redefined workshops, Clemetson (@charissazoemua) combines her passion and expertise in make-up artistry with a transformative hands-on session on self-worth and confidence.
She shared that while make-up can hide a number of flaws, she has found over the years that women and girls sometimes have doubts about themselves that no amount of concealer can hide.
“I struggled for years to understand and truly recognise my own beauty and purpose, so when I learned to overcome that through therapy and deep personal work, I saw where I could also help other women to redefine who they are and how they see themselves,” she shared.
With over 10 years’ experience in the make-up industry, Clemetson — who is also marketer and digital communication strategist — has beautified the faces of countless women, including the likes of Emmy Award-winning American-Jamaican actress Sheryl Lee Ralph. She shared that the idea of the Confidence Redefined workshop series spurred from the conversations she has had with many of her clients while they were in her chair.
“For many persons, a make-up session is more than just applying eyeshadow and lipstick,” she said. “It’s a vulnerable space, and when that trust has been earned, many times clients are moved to share other areas of vulnerability in their lives. I’ve always been thinking about how I could do more to help with those issues that go deeper than the skin.”
The Confidence Redefined workshop was recently launched with a group of teenage girls at Church on the Rock in Kingston, of which Clemetson is a member. The signature two-hour workshop includes a one-hour hands on make-up class covering the basics of make-up application from start to finish, as well as a one-hour interactive session focused on building confidence, resilience and self-worth.
Clemetson offers this workshop to both individuals and groups and equips each participant with tools to guide them on their inward and outward beauty journeys, including make-up products, workbooks, and motivational material.
“Confidence Redefined has received immense support so far,” Clemetson said. “I love what I can do with products as a make-up artist, but through this workshop I’ve been able to experience that extra sparkle that only shines in the eyes when someone’s confidence is truly redefined.”
