Help available for getting child support from overseas

The letter below is in response to a letter published on 5/8, regarding receiving child support from a parent residing in a non-reciprocal state. The writer, or any others in this situation, is encouraged to reach out to us for help, at allwoman@jamaicaobserver.com.

Mrs Macaulay,

I wrote to you not too long ago and I am very grateful for the help your team gave me.

I am pleased to let you know that I was successful in getting the necessary financial assistance (child support) for my child from his dad in a non-reciprocal state in the United States.

I am not sure which court this woman went to, but the Kingston & St Andrew Parish Court even asked me to e-mail them the steps I took in achieving this. Also, the mother cannot speak to anyone at the front desk as they wouldn’t really know how to assist her. I am not sure if she is aware that she should ask to speak with a case worker and that she should apply for maintenance through substituted service so that when the judge does up the court order, then she can contact the child support agency in Illinois as they will not help her without a court order.

Can she be told this important piece of information so she can get the process started for her child. I am willing to help her get justice for her child.
