5 cheesy dates that can still be romantic
SOMETIMES there’s no point in reinventing the wheel. It’s a truth universally acknowledged that if romantic acts, or scenes or affirmations in a book or movie make you go “Ooh” or “Aah”, they work in spreading the message of love. That’s why picnics and romantic dinners and long walks on the beach will always be a vibe, no matter the occasion.
This Valentine’s Day, instead of bursting your brain trying to come up with something unique and original to impress her, you may be better off just sticking to the basics of romance that have been tested and proven.
Here are some cheesy ideas that can still be romantic, courtesy of married couple Michelle and Paul Whyte who have been “lovingly coupled” for 12 years.
Dinner and a movie
It’s the thought and the company that counts, and you can never go wrong with the good old dinner and a movie. Do the 5:00 pm movie first, then head on to dinner at her favourite restaurant. Ensure that you’ve made reservations before, and then go out and have fun.
Lunchtime picnic
Rather than wait until night-time for a date, grab a blanket, some wine, fruits, nuts and sandwiches and head to Hope Gardens or Emancipation Park for a lunch or late-evening picnic. Just taking time for a breather from your hectic schedule will be nice.
Time on the water
Watching the waves is therapeutic, and just being with your loved ones while you reflect near the water will be fun. Get downtown to the Waterfront after work, or head to Hellshire for a drive out and some time on the beach, or plan to stay overnight in either Port Royal or on the Waterfornt so you can go to bed and wake up seeing the water together.
Netflix and chill
Nothing beats just staying in, ordering in some Indian food, lying on the couch with your guy and watching romance movies on Netflix. Throw in a bottle of wine and some candles and neither of you will forget the sheer joy of just spending time with each other.
Late-night drive
Sometimes just going out for a drive with the wind in your face is all you need to be reminded that you’re alive, and you’ve got love. Get an iTunes music playlist going, fill the tank, and make the drive to Ochi, to Port Royal, or even to MoBay. Pull up to a bar, grab some food and drinks, then drive back.
