For the health of it
THE good thing about this new age, when information is at out fingertips, is that everyday, real people are sharing on social media what works for them. This includes the fitness, health and beauty tips that are tested and true. No more guinea pigging around here — real testimonials are on TikTok.
What beauty, health or fitness tips have you explored lately that have absolutely changed your life? We asked a few women at a gym in Kingston, and this is what they said.
Emma, 32:
Green blends. They’re sold all over and are basically concentrated versions of all the greens you need in your diet. No longer do you have to worry about eating a certain amount of fruits and veggies per day — just a scoop of greens blended in water is good. This has done so much for my physical and mental health — I’m more alert, my skin is better, and I’m just generally more excited about life and my health.
Lynn, 34:
Always wear sunscreen. My skin was just dry and I was already having wrinkles and age spots at my young age. I switched to a moisturiser with SPF and use sunscreen religiously, daily, under my make-up and it’s like I was born again.
Maureen, 40:
Walk everywhere. Even this little bit of fitness everyday is good, especially if you work in a sedentary setting. I park my car further away in the parking lot, and I take the stairs a lot at work. I also take walks each evening after work, even if it’s just 10 minutes in my scheme. Not only does this clear my head, I’ve seen some improvements with my weight too.
Josette, 30:
Cut out dairy! Trust me, a few months ago you couldn’t tell me that today as I’d be having my coffee black, or having my cereal with almond or oat milk. But guess what? So many of the gut and skin problems we have are caused by dairy. Coffee creamer was my biggest problem, but one day my skin was breaking out again and I just made my coffee with a bit of lemon juice, and I’ve been doing that since. Since then I haven’t touched cow’s milk or cheese or anything like that. I’m less bloated and my skin issues are gone.
Ally, 43:
This is more for my mental health — I take three-hour blocks of time off social media daily, and just read or journal. This has done wonders for my mental health, especially when I do it just before bed. It’s much easier to manifest goodness and grace when I can shut out the ridiculousness that is social media for a while and focus on improving myself.
Lori, 24:
Reduce your sugar, salt and oil consumption. Your skin will thank you for it.
