Chloleen Daley Muschett gets the job done
CHLOLEEN Daley Muschett is the corporate communications and public relations manager, Supreme Ventures Group. Here she talks about her career, life, and getting the job done.
AW: What was your first job?
CDM: My first job was as a producer of the now-defunct radio programme The Breakfast Club. This was a fulfilling experience as it provided a great foundation for my future roles. I learnt how to be resourceful by seeking and confirming guests from across the world to speak on topical issues, and I learnt to think on my feet and keep a cool head while everything that could go wrong was going wrong behind the scenes during a live broadcast.
AW: What would you say is your best career achievement to date?
CDM: I like this question as it forces me to get introspective as it relates to my career. I tend to get the job done and keep it rolling — on to the next! This field doesn’t usually allow time to rest on one’s laurels. Since joining the Supreme Ventures team I was a part of the team that spearheaded the inclusion of an interactive, augmented reality 50-ft mural that was unveiled earlier this year at the company’s flagship store in Twin Gates Plaza. We’re one of, if not the first corporate entity to include interactive art into our branding — we’re true game changers!
AW: When would you say you have worked the hardest?
CDM: Everyday! I can possibly pinpoint a period when I was completing my MBA as a new mother while working full-time. It was rough, but I persevered and ended that period with a degree and recognition as a top performer by my then employer. The year 2020 is also up there within the hardest working category. Adjusting to life in a pandemic was also difficult, maintaining productivity during an uncertain period was definitely a challenge.
AW: What is your go-to thing for inspiration/motivation?
CDM: My go-to place for motivation is spending time with my friends and family and inspiration usually comes from being more deliberate with spending quality time with God. I’m also an avid listener of various genres of music, so there’s always something in my playlist that can give me that extra oomph on those days when I’m feeling low.
AW: What is your advice to young women who are looking to pursue a career in your field?
CDM: My advice to young women who are looking to pursue a career in the communications/marketing field is to stay curious. Read widely, stay on top of industry trends, and seek to upgrade your certifications where you can. It’s also important to aim for your version of a healthy work-life ratio. Sometimes it’s easy to give your all to work or to the children/family at the expense of yourself. This approach doesn’t benefit anyone in the long run, so always take time to recharge.
