‘Hair’s’ the deal about lustrous locks
LAST week we had people sharing the products, herbs, or foods they swear helped clear their skin best, and this week we return with those hair care items that give the best results.
Great, strong, lustrous hair doesn’t have to be a dream, and doesn’t have to be confined to some women, or some hair types. In fact, for the people we spoke with, it just took experimenting with products to get the right fit for their hair types.
Althea, 40:
I had no experience with 4C hair in girls, as I had four boys before being blessed with my daughter. Her hair is thick and coily and doesn’t retain moisture, and I tried everything, including special formulations for kids. What has worked is Aussie products, specifically the kids’ detangler, curl refresher, cream pudding and nourishing oil. They have literally been amazing. Her hair is flourishing and so healthy, the bald spots have grown in, and it’s so nice and soft. Also, the smell can’t be beat. The good thing is that the products are also very affordable.
Alecia, 30:
Aphogee products, in particular the protein treatment, never fail to bring my hair back from death. After my pregnancy I was shedding so much, it was scary. Using the protein treatment immediately stopped the shedding, and now my hair is healthy.
Olareen, 28:
Tuna plant helps to treat my hair and since using it, I also don’t have dandruff problems anymore. I just rub the tuna in my hair, cover with a steam cap, leave on for 30 minutes, then shampoo and condition.
Pryce, 32:
I take prenatal vitamins even though I’m no longer pregnant. It helps keep my hair and skin really nice, and I feel great too. I liked how I looked when I was pregnant and so I’ve continued taking them.
Gabriela, 22:
I’m a firm believer in oils — just the way you use sunscreen for your skin, I believe in protecting the hair from the elements using oils. So a couple times per week I will use castor or avocado or coconut oil to massage my scalp, and my hair, especially the ends. I do prefer a lighter oil like avocado or jojoba oil for this if I’m doing it often, but I use castor oil when I’m doing my weekly massage after I wash, deep condition and treat my hair.
Kaydeen, 30:
The secret is really keeping your hair trimmed, and not skimping on products, especially conditioner. You can use whatever shampoo you wish, but never use cheap conditioner. The Every Strand collection is really, really good, and affordable. That totally transformed my hair. Also, a tip I have is to ask your hairdresser what she uses, provided that you’re satisfied with your hair when you leave, that is. My hairdresser uses the Affirm line, and I love how my hair looks afterwards. But as I said, always trim your dead ends, and don’t be cheap when it comes to hair products.
