Moms Mean Business – Sasha-Kay Burke-Harris
How do you ensure that you mean business, and grow your career, while also embracing the challenges and joys that come with raising well-adjusted children?
It is possible to have a fulfilling full-time career while also being a mother. Being fully dedicated to family and work is not an impossible task; however, it can be exhausting if proper support and boundaries are not in place. I try to focus on the positive aspects of my job that benefit my family, while remaining confident that I am making the best decisions for them. When you are open with your children, they will understand some of the sacrifices that mommy must make to ensure their well-being. Having a strong support system also plays a pivotal role. Knowing that your children are well cared for is essential for maintaining your peace of mind while you are at work. Finally, I try to bond with them through school, as all of us are currently in school; from kindergarten to university. So we all have assignments, projects and exams to discuss and compare.
My advice to moms who are juggling both is to keep going, keep pushing, keep doing your best while engaging your children and ensure that you do right by them. The rewards will come, from both their success and yours.
