Hit a fitness roadblock? Get back on track with these tips
FOR many of us, fitness resolutions made it near the top of our 2021 list. And for a while things went well – you were following a routine, having fun and hitting targets, but as the weeks dragged on you began to notice that everything else started to take priority and your fitness plans derailed.
Fast-forward to almost four months into 2021, and many of us have either lost steam or fallen off the fitness wagon altogether.
On the bright side though, even the most committed fitness fanatic has been here, and so if you are looking to get motivated again, personal trainer and fitness guru Gisel Harrow has the perfect motivational kit to help you get back in the game.
Revisit your workout regimen
First of all, ask yourself, is your current workout regimen working for you? It is in line with your goals? This is the perfect opportunity to switch things up to ensure that workout is more in line with the body goals that you want to achieve. Too often people lose motivation because they don’t see the results that their programme was targeted to achieve.
Pro tip: Also, consider switching and changing up your routine to add new techniques so that things don’t get boring.
Relax with the unrealistic goals
No doubt we all want to have something to brag about, even to ourselves. And while that is fine, setting unrealistic goals is bound to have you feeling like you are failing even when you are doing well, just because you didn’t meet those targets. This can be a buzzkill, and faster than anything else, could derail your efforts, especially if you allow it to get into your head.
Put together the perfect playlist
Consider putting together a list of songs that will last at least the duration of your workout. Listening to music can make your workout time seem less taxing.
Recruit exercise buddies
One of the ways many people stay motivated is when they have someone to work out with. With more people forced to stay at home because of COVID, consider incorporating exercise as part of your family activities. Whether you decide to work out with your spouse or kids (or both), you are likely to be motivated for longer and you will enjoy the experience more.
Get ready to compete
Most people, even if they pretend not to compete with the person next to them at the gym, try to beat their efforts from the previous day. If your spouse or kids are up to it, you can add a little jazz to your fitness regimen by including a fun competitive element. Don’t forget to bet big and choose rewards everyone will be motivated to want to win.
Set up virtual sessions with your fitness trainer
If you don’t have a fitness trainer and especially if you live alone, consider contacting a personal trainer for virtual sessions. Most of us need the kind of motivation and support that personal trainers are trained to give. They will help you to get back on the fitness wagon in no time and will help you to remain there.
Clean out your kitchen
We get it, it’s the middle of the pandemic, you are working from home, the kids are there and convenient food, which by the way often means not so healthy food options, is likely to be in the house a little more. If that’s the case, you may want to clean things up so you won’t have to deal with the temptation. Add more fruits, vegetables and nuts to your grocery list for healthier snack options.
