A business plan encompasses all the ingredients and the framework to point you in the right direction. It is your blueprint, your why, your go-to, your point of reference, the source of funding, and the structure of a solid foundation.

However, one crucial element that so many people venturing into the entrepreneurial world often overlook, and which often haunts them later, is a failure to research, and plan. This step is crucial. When starting a business my advice would be two things — solve a real problem and clearly identify who you are solving the problem for. Don’t just fall in love with your business ‘idea’. Ensure that you are truly passionate about solving a problem for your clients. Many people are seduced into entrepreneurship believing it’s as simple as keeping all the money they earn along with total freedom, only to realise that they have basically bought themselves a 24-hour job. It’s really important to know what problem you are solving and who will pay you to solve that problem.
