AW Fashion: London Fashion Week — Runway Trends
Jamaican models Naki Depass, Shanniel Williams and Wayne Booth were some of the faces that shook the recent London leg of Fashion Week. Mother of Pearl, Burberry, Simone Rocha, Gareth Pugh, Peter Pilotto, Christopher Kane and Mulberry England were but a few of the houses that featured the local talents for their Spring and Fall/Winter unveiling.
One of the world’s most vibrant fashion hubs, London’s dynamism was mirrored, delivering ultra-feminine, body-positive silhouettes as part of a political statement on female empowerment in the age of cultural conversations spawned by initiatives like #MeToo and #TimesUp. Victorian-era designs, playful prints of the past and garden-ready gowns reminiscent of London’s idyllic afternoon tea culture were also prominent on the runways as seen in the Mother of Pearl and Mulberry shows, and sequins continue to grow in favour with their long-standing presence in Fashion Week seasons.
